Question about downgrading from Pro to Starter

I'm a solo consultant and only use Helix for a few personal automations. I'm on Pro but barely using it. If I downgrade to Starter, what happens to my existing workflows?

Hi Vince — happy to walk through it. A downgrade from Pro to Starter takes effect at the end of your current billing period (so you keep Pro features until then). When the downgrade activates:

  • Your workflow definitions are preserved — nothing gets deleted.
  • Plan limits change: max 100 runs/month (down from 10,000), 1 user seat (down from 10), and basic integrations only.
  • Workflows that depend on Pro-only integrations (Salesforce, HubSpot, Stripe, etc.) will start failing because the connections will become unavailable.
  • API access goes away. If you have anything calling the Helix API, that will stop working.

If you want, I can pull a list of which of your workflows depend on Pro-only features so you know what would break. That would help you decide.

Yes please, that would be useful.

You have 8 active workflows. Of those:

  • 5 use only Slack, Email, Webhooks, or Google Sheets — these would continue working on Starter.
  • 2 use HubSpot integration — these would fail on Starter.
  • 1 uses the Helix API — this would fail on Starter.

Also worth noting: your last 3 months of usage have been 22, 31, and 18 runs/month. Well within the {HELIX['plan_starter_runs']}-run Starter limit.

So — you'd lose 3 of 8 workflows on Starter unless you migrate them. Is the HubSpot work essential?

The HubSpot ones are nice-to-haves I built and never really used. The API one is more important but I could probably rebuild it as a webhook trigger. Let's schedule the downgrade.

Downgrade scheduled — effective May 5 (end of current period). I disabled the 3 Pro-dependent workflows now so they don't surprise-fail on the changeover. They're saved as drafts. You can reactivate them if you ever go back to Pro.

Great, thanks for thinking ahead.

RESOLUTION

Customer downgrading from Pro ($299) to Starter ($49). Walked through impact: 5/8 workflows would continue working on Starter, 2 would fail (HubSpot), 1 would fail (API access). Customer was fine losing the failing workflows. Downgrade scheduled for end of billing period, Pro-only workflows pre-emptively disabled to avoid surprise failures.
